It can be difficult to come up with date night ideas when both people in the relationship are introverts and neither of you jumps at the idea of leaving the house.
I’m an INFJ, and my boyfriend (who is awesome and agreed to my request to take the MBTI with little pestering on my part) is an INTJ. We’re both introverts and have no complaints about a night on the couch watching movies and eating pizza. Neither of us see anything wrong with an afternoon playing a video game together. We just like to be together. If we do go out, we’re most likely going to the movie theater for the latest Marvel or DC release.
Even though we’re both happy with a night in, we do like to go on a date that gets us out of the house. The key is to find things both of you will enjoy. Luckily, Z and I have many shared interests. Since we don’t go out as much and we don’t have kids, it’s a little easier to save up for big things when we do go out to have fun.
Here are some of those “big” dates I have enjoyed the most.
Go to an Aquarium/Zoo
We took a mini road trip to an aquarium a few hours away (Bass Pro’s Wonders of Wildlife). We spent the day exploring different exhibits and marveling at the aquatic life. This aquarium also had bears, snakes, flamingos and so many more.
This is probably one of my favorite dates so far! We’ll probably go to a zoo once the weather warms up.
Visit a Museum
The aquarium I mentioned also had a museum that was filled with conservation history and taxidermy. We’re huge history buffs, so it had a lot of appeal for us. I also enjoyed listening to him add his own knowledge to different things we would read on the plaques.
We have a few other museums on our list of places to visit, but we just haven’t done it yet.
Attend Concerts
Both of us love music. I just bought tickets for a concert this summer, and for Christmas we saw the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (that one is a MUST if you haven’t seen them before).
Even though we’re not that far away from a city with frequent concerts, none of our plans so far have been close to home. All of them have resulted in day trips. In a way, that makes it even better. You get a little day trip, dinner out (most likely at a place you don’t usually frequent because “road trip”), and you get to see an awesome show.
Attend Musicals
I have no idea how I managed to find someone who enjoys theater, but we recently went to a Broadway show. We saw Fiddler on the Roof, which is Z’s favorite. This was another day trip since the show was only happening at a venue on the other side of the state, but it was so worth it. I absolutely plan on attending more shows with him.
Go Hiking
Oh, look – a free date idea! I do have those sometimes.
There is an amazing state park where I grew up and we explored some of the trails when he came to spend Christmas with my family. It was so much fun. There are a lot of signs along the main trails that talk about different geological features and historical artifacts. We enjoyed reading as many signs as we could find.
It’s also great exercise, so there’s that.
Play Pokemon Go
Okay, hear me out on this one. Both of us grew up playing Pokemon on Gameboys, collecting trading cards and watching the shows. Go isn’t very fun to play by yourself, but there have been several occasions where we decided to grab some lunch and find as many Pokestops and gyms as we can. It was fun because we were playing together, and it also got us out of the house for a while.
