“Burn the Ships” by for KING & COUNTRY is AMAZING. It was born when a wife of a band member flushed her prescription pills when she was struggling with addition. They were hers, and she took them as a doctor prescribed, but she became addicted and even experienced withdrawals.
The original song is not brand new, but the remix is and it’s currently on repeat on my Spotify. I can’t stop listening, and it has reminded me why I love this song. If you haven’t heard this song, here’s the original:
What’s your ship?
Everyone has something in their past. It doesn’t have to be pills like the original story that inspired the song. It can be bad relationships, family drama, failing a test, losing a friend, messing up at work and getting fired… Everyone has something.
Think about yours for a moment.
Does your “something” have you stuck on a ship that is drifting at sea with no shoreline in sight? Are you so wrapped up in the rigging that you’re letting the ship sink you?
Burn the ships, cut the ties. Send a flare into the night. Say a prayer. Turn the tide. Dry your tears and wave goodbye.
Burn the Ships – for KING & COUNTRY
Burn your ship.
Moving on and letting go is HARD. Forgiving is HARD. You don’t have to tell me it’s hard—I’ve experienced that first-hand. When I finally found a way to get off my ships and burn them, the relief I felt was so great that I cannot even begin to explain it.
Now that I’ve moved on, I have reached a point in my life where I can honestly say I am content. I am happy.
Light a match, leave the past, burn the ships, and don’t you look back.

Ask for help leaving your ship.
If you’re struggling to heal by yourself, that’s okay. Most people can’t heal on their own. Talk to a friend or family member you trust. Go to church. Talk to a counselor. If that counselor isn’t working for you, find a different one. Keep looking until something clicks.
Find a way to heal. Find a way to burn your ships. It will be one of the best things to happen to you.
