Cutting my own hair wasn’t my only quarantine experience. It wasn’t even my first. That honor goes to the task of moving during quarantine.
My husband and I found the perfect house for us at the very end of February. We spent all of March going through inspections, paperwork, and all the tedious things involved with buying a house. I even had to verify where I work twice. (I work from home and the company I work for is based in a different state. On paper it looks like I use a portkey to get to work everyday).
Just when the COVID scares were starting to ramp up, we closed on the house. My family came to help us move just in time for the quarantine orders to go into effect.
Great timing, right?
What It’s Like to Move During a Pandemic
Moving during the COVID-19 quarantines and stay home orders was a challenge. We had furniture and tons of boxes to move, but we couldn’t ask our friends due to extra social restrictions my husband had received from work. Luckily, my father has a big truck and access to a box trailer. He and several of my family members were kind enough to come help us.
Challenges of Buying a House During Quarantine
With social distancing restrictions and stores closed, there are some things we haven’t been able to do to our house yet. I want to paint the whole interior, but I haven’t been able to do so yet. As soon as the restrictions are lifted, I’m buying paint and my mother plans on assisting me during the weekends.
Perks of Moving During Quarantine
The social distancing challenge was also a bit of a perk. We still have quite a bit of unpacking left since both of us are still working during the quarantines. Enough of it is done that the main floor of our house is livable and presentable, but there are a few boxes scattered upstairs and our basement is full of boxes.
The lack of visitors also gave us something important. We had time to bond with the puppy. Our dog also had time to bond with him and settle into her new home. I do think she was stressed about the change at first. I caught the dog and puppy chasing and tackling each other in the yard this afternoon, though, so they’re doing well.
Overall, moving during a pandemic really isn’t that bad. There’s some extra inconveniences, but I’m also grateful for the time together.
