Everyone has a story to tell. I just have some extra ones about dragons and magic floating around in my head that I’d like to share.
Where Have I Been?
I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature in 2016 and immediately began my marketing career. I started out as a copywriter and social media manager and eventually ended up in SEO (search engine optimization).
If you love to read, write, and learn about a variety of topics, digital content marketing is a great option. Over the years, my clients have come from a variety of industries — everything from party supplies to hydraulic parts.
But my one true love is all things literature.
Pursuit of Dreams – Where I’m Going
As a kid, writing was my dream. That dream was stifled repeatedly by old-school teachers who drilled into me the need to choose something “practical” and “realistic.” It was unacceptable to dream of being a ballerina, a rockstar, or (apparently) an author. Their attempts to force me into a box that didn’t fit resulted in two extra years of college while I bounced around different majors.
Now, with some encouragement from my husband, I decided to go back to school for my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. I am on track to graduate at the end of 2023. I feel confident in my pursuit of becoming an author for the first time ever.
My Favorite Genres
I’ll read just about any genre with the utmost enthusiasm, but fantasy has always been my favorite. I love to leave my personal anxiety and the problems of the world behind in favor of exploring the impossible. Dragons, mermaids, magic, incredible scientific advances — I welcome these with open arms.
I also prefer to write New Adult. Young adult is a little too young for my writing tastes (I’ll still read it!), but I love working with characters who are exploring what it means to be an adult and be on their own for the first time. My characters are usually somewhere between 18-25 years old, and they definitely don’t have the adult world figured out yet.
