Today’s word of the day is “Gratitude.”
Starting November, the month of Thanksgiving, with “Gratitude” is oddly fitting. November is a time to reflect on all the things you are truly thankful for in your life. I have much to be grateful for, especially this year.
These things are in no particular order.
Education
It has been a few years since I graduated, but now that I am considering pursuing a graduate degree, I feel so grateful for my degree and the opportunities it has brought me. I worked so hard for my degree. Not all of it was easy, but I am grateful for the opportunities and I am proud I can look back on it at any time and think to myself, “Look at what you accomplished. YOU did that.”
Family
I am so grateful for an endlessly supportive and loving family. Even if I mess up or need help, I know the response I’m going to get is, “Well, that was a dumb choice. How can I help?”
Even when we’re not pleased with each other, I know I can go to them at any time for anything. They proved that when I got a divorce. They proved that when I was struggling as a teenager. They proved that by supporting me and my decisions, giving me advice, helping me when I needed it, and teaching me to be a good person.
My Dog
Don’t laugh. My sweet and adorable bundle of fur has been there for me through some really terrible things, but also a LOT of fantastic things. She is always excited to see me. She knows when I’m sad and need some extra love. There is nothing that makes you feel loved quite like a dog who hasn’t seen you in a few days.
My Husband
Here comes the sappy part.
I cannot even begin to describe the depth of gratitude I feel because I am lucky enough to have this man in my life. He gets along with my family, supports me, comforts me when I have a bad day, makes me laugh every single day about the most ridiculous things, drives me crazy every time he says “tomorrow” when I ask him to take out the trash (because I know that will really be the day after tomorrow), and is… well… he’s my person. I am grateful because God has blessed me with this incredibly patriotic, passionate and caring man. I prayed for the right person for so long, and he truly is an answered prayer.
“Gratitude” is the first in my November 2019 “Post a Day” word prompts.
