Today’s word of the day is “Moonlight.”
Symbolism
I have a degree in literature, and I know objects can have multiple symbols behind them depending on the story. The moon can represent the ominous and spooky (here’s looking at you, Halloween and werewolves). The moon can also represent calm and peace. It’s kind of like the battle between being an optimist or a pessimist.
Be Optimistic
I choose to see peace in the moonlight. People will see what they want to see in any situation. I have a habit of looking for the best until I am proven wrong.
Who doesn’t really want to be happy and optimistic? Seeing the worst is harder, and it can take so much effort. I actually feel bad for people who can’t look at someone else and think of something genuinely nice to say to them (not fake nice – genuine!).
Being mean takes effort, but it is so simple to just smile at someone or say hello as you walk by, and it makes their day. I complimented a girl in the drive-thru at Starbucks on her hair color when she handed me my drink, and she lit up with happiness at the compliment. One simple comment can make someone’s day.
Choose Happiness
Instead of choosing to see the moonlight as something from a Halloween story, see it as a symbol for calm. Instead of choosing to be mean to others, stay quiet or find something nice to say.
Just be kind to people.
