Today’s word of the day is “pumpkin.”
How much more “Fall” can you get than “pumpkin?”
Pumpkin spice (Here’s looking at you, Starbucks), pumpkin carving, pumpkin patch, pumpkin pie…
“Pumpkin” is just so quintessentially fall.
Family Traditions
My family doesn’t have as many typical “traditions” as other families may have (we’re just so chill that no one ever put much stock in them), but most of our traditions revolve around food.
Every Thanksgiving, my mom makes a turkey AND fried chicken, because I’m difficult and don’t like turkey (it just tastes weird, okay?). Every holiday season, my mom makes the same chex mix her mom always made. Every Christmas, there is a spree of baking for cookies, pies, fudge, and all things terrible for you but too delicious to ignore.
The Best Kind of Pumpkin
Pumpkin pie is one of those things that is present for EVERY Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family. My grandparents made it when I was a kid, and they always made sure I got a piece or two because it was the only pie I really liked (and I LOVE that pie).
I have many memories of my grandma on my dad’s side making me my own mini, single-serving pumpkin pies, which was just the coolest thing in my kid mind.
Don’t Forget the Pumpkin King
Of course, the other great thing about pumpkins is Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King. Don’t forget about Jack. Go watch that movie, sing along to the soundtrack, and enjoy an amazing move that is both Halloween and Christmas at the same time.
